Abstract: Green infrastructure has become a central axis of contemporary spatial planning. However, European cities display significant differences in the way they conceptualise and classify their green systems. This article comparatively analyses the conceptual frameworks and typologies of green infrastructure present in three reference planning documents: the Plan de Infraestructura Verde y Biodiversidad of Madrid, the London Environment Strategy of the Mayor of London, and the Berlin documentary ensemble formed by the Charta für das Berliner Stadtgrün and the Handlungsprogramm Berliner Stadtgrün 2030. The analysis reveals paradigmatic convergences around the systemic-reticular approach and ecosystemic multifunctionality, but also substantive divergences regarding the scale of recognised components, classification criteria, and the integration of blue and grey infrastructure. The findings contribute to the debate on standardisation and contextual specificity in the planning of urban green infrastructure at the metropolitan scale.
